BEACHWOOD, OH / ACCESSWIRE / February 16, 2015 / Steve Kimmelman is a man who is not afraid to speak his mind-on any subject. The 50-something CEO of Cleveland based Redwood Living, a developer of unique apartment homes throughout the Midwest, doesn't hesitate to express a bit of frustration with the genteel applause and self-congratulatory stance of mega-rich patrons of their local opera company.
"Look, there's nothing wrong with giving money to museums, ballets, and operas- whatever. I enjoy all of it. But what I really enjoy is giving money to my employees by giving them good jobs. Maybe a couple of million given to an art museum would do better things and help more people when it is put to creating jobs."
Steve Kimmelman has been giving people jobs for more than twenty five years, and plans to continue until he stops working himself-which is never, "I've been fortunate enough to succeed in my business and I've learned a few things along the way. One thing is that when you give people a job with good pay, health insurance and the opportunity for advancement then they can raise a family and have a good life."
Kimmelman says his working around the clock to build his company and generate more jobs is his favorite "charity" cause. Not that he doesn't contribute elsewhere, although hesitant to talk about it. He regularly gives to a variety of nonprofit groups, including a recent contribution to a program for inner city youth that uses hip-hop music as a tool for positive social change.
In the past Kimmelman has given to disaster relief, international efforts to combat women's cancer, tutoring initiatives and more.
Kimmelman points out that he tries to think outside the box when it comes to helping make life better for a lot of people, "I believe that our Redwood product itself is an example of giving people what they need to enjoy life."
He says the fact that Redwood apartment homes are single-story and thus eliminates the stress of noisy upstairs and downstairs neighbors is an example, as well as providing private attached garages so people don't have to fight through rain and snow and gloom of night just to get to their car.
Of course Steve Kimmelman has heard the old saw about charity beginning at home. But for him, charity begins in the homes he builds for others, and the jobs that he provides as a result.
