A new report from Food Industry Executive reveals what software food industry leaders value most and how they're using technology to transform their business.
PORTLAND, OR / ACCESSWIRE / July 25, 2023 / More than half (54%) of food processors and manufacturers say software provides a competitive advantage for their business, according to the second edition of Food Industry Executive's Food & Beverage Industry Software Survey Report. Only 30% said the same in 2022.
The report, sponsored by Aptean and based on a survey of representatives across the food and beverage industry, explores how processors and manufacturers are increasingly turning to technology to overcome current challenges and stay one step ahead of the competition.
In 2022, the industry was rapidly adopting new technologies in the midst of labor shortages and supply chain disruptions. Supply chain challenges have lessened this year, but finding and keeping workers is an ongoing struggle, as is inflation and other financial issues. Technology is becoming a must-have for moving business forward against these challenges, and leaders are proving they're more willing to invest in tools that can get them where they need to be.
However, implementing new software has its own obstacles - respondents ranked user adoption and resistance to change, employee training, and integration and compatibility issues are their biggest challenges when bringing new tools into their operations.
Other highlights from the 2023 report include:
- Functionality surpassed cost as the most important feature of new software.
- Participants ranked enterprise resource planning (ERP) as their most valuable software, bringing it up from sixth place last year.
- Nearly 1 in 3 respondents said their company's greatest challenge right now is workforce issues, including hiring, retention, and the cost of labor.
