LANESBOROUGH, MA / ACCESS Newswire / September 1, 2026 / Pesach Walter, an educator, author, and educational researcher from Lanesborough, Massachusetts, has completed his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree from UMass Global at age 82.
Walter completed the degree on August 3, 2026. His doctoral dissertation, Teachers' Perceptions of Principals' Transformational Leadership and Its Impact on Job Satisfaction in Rural California, examines teachers' experiences of school leadership and its relationship to job satisfaction and retention in rural schools.
The accomplishment also informs Walter's public work on lifelong learning and graduate education for older adults. Through GraduateEdConnect, he encourages adults age 60 and older to pursue intellectually demanding study, graduate education, and meaningful engagement in later life.
Walter's developing framework, "The Inverse Value of Graduation for Seniors," proposes that, for many older adults, the value of graduate education is not limited to a credential or career advancement. The learning process itself can provide intellectual challenge, community, purpose, and a renewed opportunity to contribute.
"Completing this doctorate has reinforced my belief that serious learning does not have an expiration date," Walter said. "For older adults, the pursuit of advanced education can be a powerful way to stay engaged with ideas, with other people, and with life itself."
