Body-Boosting Practices Could Be Critical in Fighting The Omicron Variant

IRVINE, CA / ACCESSWIRE / December 13, 2021 / On November 26, 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified a new variant of the COVID-19 virus and named it Omicron. The new variant was first reported to the WHO by South Africa, and soon after, cases were discovered in the United States.

Much like COVID-19, having a strong immune system will not prevent anyone from contracting the Omicron Variant. However, developing a robust immune system while healthy can sustain the body as it becomes familiar with the virus if one becomes infected.

Some general ways to boost the immune system include exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet high in fruits and vegetables, avoiding smoking, drinking alcohol in moderation, decreasing stress levels, and getting adequate amounts of sleep. Another way to help strengthen the immune system is a regular breathing practice.

Elizabeth Logue, founder and developer of FUEL, a collection of powerful, research-based breathing techniques, says, "breathing techniques have been shown to have a powerful impact on your immune function. Some of the benefits include strengthening lung function, facilitating the flow of lymphatic fluid carrying infection-fighting white blood cells (lymphocytes) throughout the body. "

Logue adds, "the lymphatic system is often overlooked, but it plays an integral role in the immune functions of the body. The lymphatic system is a subsystem of the circulatory system. It consists of a complex network of organs, vessels, and tissues. The lymphatic system helps protect the body against potentially harmful or even fatal micro-organisms, or pathogens, such as infections, by producing white bold cells called lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are one of the body's main types of immune cells.

According to Dr. Michael Gelb, DDS, MS, the proper breathing technique can also help in the uptake of nitric oxide - which may also help strengthen the immune system. The FUEL program's Logue says, "when you breathe in through your nose, nitric oxide, an important molecule, is mixed with the inhaled air. Nitric oxide helps to relax the linings of the lungs and blood vessels, lower blood pressure, increase circulation, and acts as a powerful antimicrobial."

FUEL also teaches breathing techniques to release stress, anxiety, and depression and improve digestion. Logue adds, "breathing techniques can also act as distraction techniques by taking your mind off negative, worrisome thoughts."

Authorities agree there may be other Covid variants on the horizon. The CDC is calling on Americans to be even more vigilant to the protocols that are in place to safeguard the public. FUEL's breathing techniques may provide an additional tool to strengthen the immune system. Logue says, "adding a regular breathing practice just may be the kick your immune system needs."
