New Report Shows Young Adults with Degree, Training Have Better Jobs
RALEIGH, NC / ACCESSWIRE / June 13, 2023 / A new report shows that additional education, including a bachelor's degree or career and technical education can increase the chances of a young adult having a good job by age 30. At the same time, annual Gallup data shows employees are increasingly disengaged - a trend that can lead to more millennials switching careers.
To improve their job prospects, Gen Z and Millennials may need to head back to the classroom to gain new skills, a certificate, or a degree to make the career changes they desire. College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) is ready with resources for adults and nontraditional learners to help young adults find their path into high-demand fields.
Adults going back to school or exploring higher education for the first time face different challenges and have additional responsibilities and stresses that figure into their plans. For adults considering starting or completing a two-year or four-year degree, trade school, or a certificate program, CFNC offers a variety of free resources, including:
- Financial aid assistance for adult and nontraditional learners.
- Help with exploring careers.
- Finding the education or training program for their needs.
- Information on receiving credit for prior learning and experience.
- Links to online learning opportunities, and more!
"Our North Carolina adult and nontraditional learners are already equipped with skills, talents, and work experience but see the need for more education to prepare them for a new job or career. Navigating the steps to return to college can be overwhelming," said Andrea Poole, Executive Director of the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority. "CFNC's goal is to prepare these talented people for high-demand jobs by connecting them with the best resources and programs for academic and career success."
In addition to the free resources from CFNC.org, adult and nontraditional learners can also use their CFNC user IDs and passwords to log in to NCcareers.org to take career assessments, determine how their interests intersect with different types of jobs, and explore occupations.
Here are just a few In-Demand Careers in North Carolina:
1. Teacher: With a bachelor's degree, those switching careers will need a teaching license and be enrolled in an educator preparation program in North Carolina. NCcareers.org reports there are more than 1,000 open positions across the state.
2. Information Security Analyst: Most information security analyst positions require a four-year bachelor's degree, but some do not. Associated programs or majors include cyber crime technology, information technology project management, and information systems security. According to NCcareers.org, information technology is a very fast growing industry with high ratings for wages, job openings, and job growth.
3. HVAC Technician: HVAC technicians are especially in demand in North Carolina. NCcareers.org gives the career five stars due to job growth, job openings, and decent wages. In fact, many trades are in demand due to a shortage of skilled labor, which means exciting opportunities for those interested in a new career. Trade and apprenticeship programs at North Carolina community colleges train in a variety of popular fields.
