Mr. Gallagher is the founder and chief executive officer of Seven Bells Consulting, established in 2024. He speaks at conferences, conducts technical presentations, facilitates customer and prospect roundtables, participates in panel discussions and provides solutions support globally.
Before founding Seven Bells Consulting, Mr. Gallagher worked as an executive consultant following a long career with Dell Inc. and EMC. His leadership positions included president of the cloud platform team, president of the enterprise and midrange systems division, president of the enterprise storage division, senior vice president and general manager, and vice president of engineering.
In an interview with Marquis Who's Who, Mr. Gallagher reflected on joining EMC during its early growth period. He said he was the company's first data storage engineer, joining in 1985 when the engineering group consisted of only five people. He later played an important role in developing products for the IBM midrange market and advancing high-end storage technology. A defining achievement came in 2007, when he helped lead the introduction of high-density solid-state, or flash, technology into data storage. The project originated with Department of Defense work around 2006 and helped transform data centers by moving beyond large magnetic storage systems.
Mr. Gallagher also led major business transformation efforts. According to his Marquis Who's Who materials, he developed a five-year strategy that reversed projections for declining revenue and earnings. Instead of a projected 3% revenue decline, the business achieved 9% growth, while EBIT improved by two points rather than declining by two points.
Throughout his career, Mr. Gallagher has earned 23 United States patents in data storage technology. His honors include EMC's Presidential Award for ERP Transformation in 2001 and the Presidential Award for Cost Transformation in 2003. He is a member of Eta Kappa Nu and IEEE.
Mr. Gallagher earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical and electronics engineering from Tufts University in 1982 and a master's degree in computer engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1990. He credits a high school counselor with steering him from an early interest in forestry toward engineering, launching his career in technology.
During his Marquis Who's Who interview, Mr. Gallagher emphasized work ethic, perseverance and openness to learning. He credits his father with teaching him that will, determination and the desire to succeed can overcome obstacles. He also believes professional success is measured by results and that leaders must remain willing to listen, learn from others and adapt. When giving advice, he shares, "good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment. That was the first lesson I learned, and the corollary is that it's not success that breeds success; it's failure that breeds success."
Another strength of Mr. Gallagher's leadership is his ability to translate complex technical ideas into accessible language. He has worked with chief information officers, senior executives, engineers and customers across industries, moving between high-level business strategy and detailed technical discussions. He views effective change leadership as helping people understand what must change, why it matters and how to move forward.
Beyond his professional work, Mr. Gallagher has served on regional advisory boards for healthcare treatment centers in New England and Florida and spent approximately eight years coaching youth football. He also supports his son and daughter-in-law's brewery and roastery.
Looking ahead, Mr. Gallagher intends to focus on artificial intelligence applications, intelligent data infrastructure and the social impact of emerging technologies. His goal is to help ensure AI remains a positive force while addressing sustainability, energy consumption, responsible deployment and protections for younger generations.
