Russian Athletics Lodges a Claim with CAS Against World Athletics' Decision to Extend Suspension of Russian Athletes

MOSCOW, RU / ACCESS Newswire / July 9, 2026 / Russian Athletics has lodged a claim with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to challenge World Athletics' decision to extend the suspension of Russian athletes from participation in international competitions held under the auspices of World Athletics.

Russian Athletics has engaged experienced international lawyers specialising in sports law, including with proceedings before the CAS, to represent its position in the arbitration proceedings.

The appeal was lodged within the five-day time limit stipulated in the World Athletics Constitution, ensuring compliance with all procedural requirements.

Russian Athletics notes that World Athletics' decision affects the fundamental interests of athletics in Russia and restricts Russian athletes' right to compete, on grounds that Russian Athletics considers discriminatory. Russian Athletics continues to pursue all available legal measures to protect the interests of Russian athletes.
