Upbeat New Single "Colorized World (Acoustic)" Also Lands
NEW YORK CITY, NY / ACCESS Newswire / October 9, 2026 / Award-winning singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and activist Rachael Sage, alongside her longtime band The Sequins, has released her reflective new full-length studio album, Under My Canopy via MPress Records (New York, NY). A reinvention of songs from their previously lauded studio album, Canopy, Under My Canopy features fresh acoustic instrumentation and imaginative new arrangements. Confidently spanning the genres of Americana, pop and neo-folk, the record offers listeners a beautifully crafted, deeply heartfelt assortment of songs that find common ground in themes of living a purposeful and joyful life rooted in inclusiveness, equality and non-violence. Compassionate, unflinching yet optimistic, Under My Canopy is one of her most soulful and thought-provoking works yet.
The new upbeat, musically complex, coming-of-age love song "Colorized World (Acoustic)" showcases Sage's versatile vocal range, bringing to mind contemporary story songs like Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams with a touch of ‘90s nostalgia (think early Jewel, Lisa Loeb and Alanis). Sage writes: "In this colorized world you're a girl who could be/So much more than you are like a shooting star/Just be sure to show it when you finally know it...when you finally know."

For Rachael Sage, songs can do something few public conversations can. She believes artists have an opportunity to bridge divides by helping audiences recognize a shared humanity beyond labels or assumptions. Sage elaborates about the themes in Under My Canopy: "These are scary and overwhelming times for many - whether it's the repeated horrors of war, political oppression, the dismantling of women's and LGBTQ+ rights, disability rights, racism, mass shootings and on and on. Hard-won rights and opportunities for people of all kinds to be exactly who they are, without shame and repression have been continually under attack. But it's also important to embrace joy, to understand that friendship and love of any kind are the greatest gifts, and that we need to protect, help and uplift each other...that's really the point of so much of this life, isn't it?"
The diverse collection of songs on Under My Canopy feels like a refuge, woven from resilience, longing, and the irrepressible determination to find light in the darkest places. The 14-track record features the recently released single "Underneath (Acoustic)", a haunting response to mass shootings in America that brings renewed attention to the vital need for gun control; "Nexus (Acoustic)", which honors a young teen who passed away after being beaten by school peers for being nonbinary; "Everyday (Acoustic)", a playful refresh of Buddy Holly's classic; and "Canopy (Acoustic)," an inspirational anthem that explores radical inclusivity non-violence, and environmental consciousness.
