Singer-songwriter introduces his cinematic country storytelling style with a deeply personal song about first love, summer memories and the places that remain with us
PROVO, UT / ACCESS Newswire / September 2, 2026 / Singer-songwriter Nathan Nearman will make his official recording debut September 4 with the worldwide release of "Old Swimmin' Hole," the first single from his forthcoming project, The Long Way Home. The official music video for the song will also be released September 4 through Nearman Entertainment.
"Old Swimmin' Hole" draws from Nearman's memories of being 17 and spending summer days at a secluded swimming hole. The song incorporates details from those memories-including warm water, Georgia pines, a rope swing, fireflies, an old Chevrolet and the girl who shared that summer with him-to tell a story about first love and the way certain places remain connected to formative moments in life.
"I didn't want to write a song that simply reminded you of being young. I wanted to take you there," Nearman said. "The summer air. The water. The radio. She's beside you. And for five minutes, nothing that comes later has happened yet."
The single introduces what Nearman describes as cinematic country storytelling, an approach that combines traditional narrative songwriting with visually detailed scenes intended to give songs the emotional and visual progression of film.
Rather than generalizing the story, Nearman based "Old Swimmin' Hole" on specific memories from his own life. The swimming hole, the summer and the relationship at the center of the song are drawn from his personal experience.
Nearman said that specificity is central to his approach to songwriting.
"If someone hears ‘Old Swimmin' Hole' and suddenly sees a face, remembers a first love, a hometown, a river, a lake or a summer, then we've shared something," Nearman said. "I've brought them into my memory, and somewhere inside it, maybe they've found one of their own."
