CHICAGO, IL / ACCESS Newswire / August 31, 2026 / Chicago-based vocalist and songwriter Sundas Naqvi is continuing to build a distinctive place in the city's local music community by blending jazz standards, acoustic folk influences, and thoughtful storytelling.
Originally from southern England, Naqvi grew up surrounded by music, literature, and the arts. She began singing through school choirs and community performances before developing a deeper interest in jazz and folk music during her university years. She later studied English Literature and Music Studies at the University of Brighton, where her interest in language, storytelling, and performance began to overlap.
After moving to Chicago in her late twenties, Naqvi found inspiration in the city's long musical history and neighborhood arts scene. She has since performed at jazz lounges, independent coffeehouses, private events, and seasonal festivals throughout the area.
Her approach to music is centered on connection rather than spectacle. Naqvi often draws inspiration from everyday experiences, family life, memory, resilience, and the places people call home.
"Some of the most meaningful songs begin with something very small," Naqvi said. "It might be a conversation, a walk through a neighborhood, or a detail you almost missed. Music gives us a way to pay attention to those moments."
Alongside performing and songwriting, Naqvi occasionally works with aspiring vocalists and songwriters. She also volunteers with youth music programs, leading beginner-friendly songwriting and vocal sessions designed to help young people become more comfortable expressing their own ideas.
Her commitment to mentorship extends beyond music. Naqvi also volunteers as an assistant youth soccer coach, where she enjoys helping young athletes develop confidence, patience, and teamwork.
Away from the stage, she can often be found exploring Chicago neighborhoods, photographing city streets and architecture, reading, visiting independent cafés, or attending local arts events.
As Naqvi continues performing and developing new material, she remains focused on creating music that feels personal, thoughtful, and rooted in real experience.
