A custom design approach helped overcome site challenges while delivering a successful solar installation for the project owner.

BALTIMORE AND DELMAR, MD / ACCESS Newswire / August 20, 2026 / Gordian Energy Systems is proud to announce the successful completion of the Kimmey Solar project in Delmar, Maryland, delivering a community solar asset that combines distributed energy generation with innovative site design and environmental stewardship.

Developed for Summit Ridge Energy, the nation's leading commercial solar company, the Kimmey Solar project transformed underutilized land into a productive locally generated energy resource while maintaining careful attention to environmental requirements and stormwater management.

One of the most distinctive features of the project is the installation of Gordian Energy Systems' first permeable Geoweb roadway system. Unlike traditional access roads that can alter drainage patterns and increase stormwater runoff, the roadway was engineered to allow water to infiltrate naturally through the surface and into the ground below. This approach helps preserve existing site hydrology while minimizing impacts to surrounding land and stormwater infrastructure.

The innovative roadway solution also proved its value during construction. Despite heavy equipment traffic and ongoing construction activity, the roadway maintained its integrity and functionality while protecting the site's natural drainage patterns.

"Kimmey Solar demonstrates what can be accomplished when innovative design, strong project management, and local partnership come together," said Katelyn Knox, Senior Project Manager at Gordian Energy Systems. "The permeable Geoweb roadway allowed us to meet the project's stormwater management goals while providing a durable access solution that performed exceptionally well throughout construction. Just as important was the outstanding collaboration we had with Wicomico County. Their support and commitment to working together helped us maintain momentum and deliver a successful project for Summit Ridge Energy and the local community."

Beyond its engineering accomplishments, the Kimmey Solar project also highlights the value of collaboration between private industry and local government. Gordian Energy Systems worked closely with Wicomico County and local authorities throughout development and construction, helping permitting reviews, inspections, and closeout activities progress efficiently and keeping the project on schedule from start to finish.

"We greatly appreciate the partnership we had with Wicomico County throughout this project," Knox added. "Their responsiveness, professionalism, and collaborative approach created a positive experience for everyone involved and demonstrated what can happen when developers, contractors, and municipalities work together toward a common goal."

"Kimmey Solar is a great example of what strong execution from a trusted partner looks like," said Brandon Stephens, VP of Project Management, Summit Ridge Energy. "Gordian's attention to site design and their close coordination with Wicomico County helped this project come together smoothly, and it's now delivering locally generated power and value to the community for years to come."

Located in Wicomico County, the Kimmey Solar project adds locally generated energy to Maryland's growing solar energy portfolio while demonstrating how thoughtful engineering can support both energy production and environmental responsibility. The project also marks an important milestone for Gordian Energy Systems as the company's first deployment of a permeable Geoweb roadway solution, showcasing its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and long-term project performance.

As Gordian Energy Systems continues to expand its renewable energy construction portfolio throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond, the Kimmey Solar project serves as an example of how creative engineering, effective project management, and strong community partnerships can deliver lasting value for landowners, residents, and the electric grid.
