Three years later, Röhm chemical plant demonstrates long-term success of Kryton International's Hard-Cem® and partnership with KLP Construction Supply
BAY CITY, TX / ACCESS Newswire / June 9, 2026 / Accelerating industrial growth and rising long-term durability standards across Texas are creating unprecedented demand for advanced, abrasion-resistant concrete technologies as owners and specifiers look toward full-lifecycle value for their facilities.

"Industrial operators realize that sustainability and long-term profitability correlate directly with infrastructure resilience," stated Kari Yuers, CEO of Kryton International. "Texas has emerged as an epicenter for this shift in mindset as industrial development from factories to logistics centers continue to surge."
The state leads the U.S. in cement shipments, consuming 18 percent of all cement sold nationally, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. A prime demonstration of this trend is Röhm's state-of-the-art methyl methacrylate (MMA) production facility in Bay City, Texas, where the integrated deployment of Kryton's Hard-Cem® admixture has delivered flawless floor performance under severe industrial wear.
As the only facility in the U.S. utilizing the highly efficient, C2-based LiMA technology to produce MMA, the plant relies on extensive automation and sophisticated process engineering to maintain safe, high-quality production. Daily operations require the continuous movement of heavy transportation equipment carrying large containers of hazardous chemicals. This severe, high-load vehicular traffic possesses the potential to rapidly degrade conventional concrete surfaces, leading to substantial repair costs and disruptive operational downtime.
To preemptively resolve these durability challenges, Röhm collaborated with KLP Construction Supply, Kryton's regional distribution partner, which provided the technical guidance that led Röhm to include Hard-Cem directly within the facility's concrete specifications.
"The sustained performance at the Bay City plant confirms the distinct economic advantage of engineering for durability from the outset," said Nathali Parker, CEO of KLP Construction Supply. "Texas infrastructure is facing unprecedented loads, and asset owners require concrete surfaces that withstand intense mechanical stress without requiring constant remediation. Our partnership with Kryton allows us to deliver Hard-Cem to projects statewide, providing a reliable solution that directly enhances asset longevity while protecting downstream operational schedules."
Hard-Cem functions through a proprietary metal-mineral microstructure that is added integrally to the concrete mix during batching. This integral application eliminates the need for expensive, labor-intensive topical floor treatments or specialized on-site finishing techniques, thereby lowering initial construction complexity. By fundamentally altering the concrete matrix, Hard-Cem more than doubles the wear life of the slab, significantly lowers long-term maintenance overhead, and decreases the cumulative embodied carbon footprint of the concrete over its service life.
"Hard-Cem provides engineers, contractors, and owners with a proven methodology to maximize abrasion resistance and maintain structural integrity under the harshest conditions," said Yuers. "The flawless three-year track record at Röhm's automated facility proves that prioritizing lifecycle performance over short-term savings yields substantial dividends in operational stability and structural sustainability."
