GAITHERSBURG, MD / ACCESS Newswire / June 12, 2026 / TLab Inc. today welcomed the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announcement of a new national plan to strengthen the response to infection associated chronic illnesses (IACI) that may include conditions resulting from Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses.
The HHS plan includes initiatives focused on prevention, research, innovation, diagnostics, treatment and patient care. HHS also announced LymeX innovation efforts, continued support for next-generation Lyme diagnostics and a public-private collaboration with the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) to help connect patients with experienced providers and educational resources.
"This is encouraging news for Lyme patients, clinicians, laboratories and the broader tick-borne disease community," said B. Robert Mozayeni, MD, Founder and Lab Director of TLab. "The HHS announcement, including its collaboration with ILADS, recognizes what many of us have seen for years: patients and providers need better tools, better data, and more practical ways to evaluate complex Lyme and tick-borne disease cases."
TLab is a translational diagnostics laboratory focused on advanced molecular and imaging-based approaches for evaluating infection associated chronic illness (IACI), including Lyme disease and other vector-borne infections. The laboratory uses rRNA-based molecular imaging and confocal microscopy to provide clinicians with additional diagnostic information in selected complex cases.
"For many patients, the challenge is not simply whether they were exposed to a pathogen," said Dr. Mozayeni. "The harder clinical question is what information can help guide the next step when symptoms persist, co-infections are suspected, or the clinical picture remains unclear."
About TLab
TLab is breaking new ground in revealing the mechanisms of inflammation. TLab combines advanced molecular probes, staining methods, and confocal laser imaging techniques to help identify the presence of pathogens in blood and explore the causes and consequences of inflammatory disease.
