Company Update
The Virginia urogynecologist continues to combine high-volume reconstructive surgery, clinical research, and medical technology development in the treatment of complex pelvic health conditions.
RICHMOND, VA / ACCESS Newswire / October 21, 2026 / Dr. Nathan Guerette, a board-certified urogynecologist and founder of the Intimate Wellness Institute of Virginia, is highlighting the continued evolution of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery as new research, technology, and treatment options expand the ways physicians can address complex pelvic health conditions.
Guerette founded the Intimate Wellness Institute of Virginia in 2009 as a specialized practice focused on urogynecology and advanced women's pelvic care. Since then, his work has grown to include high-volume reconstructive surgery, minimally invasive procedures, robotic surgery, clinical research, and consultation on emerging medical technologies.
"The field has changed considerably, but the goal remains the same," said Guerette. "We want to give women effective options that improve function, confidence, and quality of life while making sure they feel respected throughout the process."
Surgical Experience Continues to Shape Care
Guerette performs more than 600 reconstructive pelvic surgeries each year, treating a broad range of pelvic floor disorders and other complex conditions.
His work includes advanced vaginal surgery, minimally invasive pelvic reconstruction, robotic procedures, and non-surgical treatment options. That range allows treatment plans to be shaped around the individual patient rather than relying on a single approach.
"Experience teaches you that even patients with similar diagnoses can have very different needs," Guerette said. "The best treatment depends on the condition, the patient's priorities, and what will provide the most meaningful improvement in her daily life."
Guerette completed fellowship training in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2005. Before relocating to Virginia, he served as Director of Urogynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania.
He has also served as Director of Robotic Surgery at Johnston-Willis Medical Center and held an academic appointment as Associate Clinical Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Research and Technology Expand Treatment Options
Clinical research remains an important part of the work at the Intimate Wellness Institute of Virginia. The practice participates in studies involving new treatments and technologies, including FDA-level research designed to evaluate emerging approaches to women's pelvic health.
Guerette has also served as an expert consultant to biomedical companies developing new medical technologies and holds multiple patents related to innovation in the field.
"New technology is valuable when it solves a real clinical problem," he said. "Research helps us determine whether an idea actually improves care rather than simply being different from what came before."
His involvement in both clinical practice and technology development gives him a perspective that extends from identifying unmet needs in the treatment room and operating theatre to evaluating how future tools may address those challenges.
Combining Advanced Medicine With Personal Care
While technology and research continue to influence Female Pelvic Medicine, Guerette emphasizes that the patient experience remains central to specialized pelvic care.
Pelvic floor disorders can affect comfort, mobility, confidence, relationships, and independence. They can also be difficult for patients to discuss, making communication and privacy particularly important.
"Advanced medicine and personal care should not be treated as separate things," Guerette said. "Patients deserve access to sophisticated treatment while also feeling that their concerns are being heard and taken seriously."
As research and surgical techniques continue to develop, Guerette and the Intimate Wellness Institute of Virginia remain focused on bringing together specialized experience, emerging technology, and individualized care for women dealing with complex pelvic health conditions.
