New website brings together government audits, public financial records, investigative reporting and candidate comparisons ahead of November 3 election
SACRAMENTO, CA / ACCESS Newswire / October 22, 2026 / California State Controller candidate Herb Morgan announced Tuesday the launch of MaliaCohen.org (https://maliacohen.org/), a public information website compiling government audits, financial reports, public disclosures, news coverage and statements related to incumbent State Controller Malia Cohen's tenure.
The website is designed to help Californians examine the responsibilities of the State Controller's Office, review publicly available financial oversight information and explore issues surrounding government spending, transparency and accountability.
MaliaCohen.org organizes publicly available information into several areas of interest, including:
- Homelessness Spending and Financial Oversight: The website examines California's nearly $24 billion in homelessness-related spending over a multiyear period, including publicly reported audit activity, oversight responsibilities and previous statements regarding financial accountability.
- California's Unclaimed Property Program: The website provides information about the state's administration of unclaimed property, including asset recovery procedures, technology modernization efforts and publicly reported legal proceedings.
- State Financial Reporting and Accountability: The website highlights findings and recommendations from the California State Auditor concerning financial reporting timelines, employee salary overpayments and administrative oversight within the State Controller's Office.
- Candidate Experience and Qualifications: Visitors can review a side-by-side comparison of the candidates' professional backgrounds, experience and publicly stated priorities for managing California's finances.
The website references original government documents, public financial disclosures, published reporting and official statements, allowing visitors to explore the underlying information and reach their own conclusions.

Morgan's proposal also calls for searchable transaction-level financial information and enhanced monitoring systems designed to identify potential irregularities and support timely review.
