FAIRFIELD, CA / ACCESS Newswire / July 10, 2026 / Mirador Law is counsel of record for individuals and families affected by the June 3, 2026 shooting that followed the Sem Yeto High School graduation ceremony in Fairfield, California. The firm issued the following statement today after authorities announced that a 17-year-old suspect had been apprehended in Texas in relation to the shooting.
According to Fairfield police, the arrest came after the U.S. Marshals Service, working alongside local detectives, carried out warrants Friday morning to arrest the teenager and search a residence in the Dallas-Fort Worth region of Texas. Police said he was detained peacefully and now faces a murder allegation along with additional charges. Investigators believe he left California for Texas in the days that followed the shooting, and officials expect him to be held there until he can be returned to Solano County. Because the individual is under 18, law enforcement has not disclosed his identity.
The gunfire erupted as the Sem Yeto High School commencement wrapped up at Fairfield High School, which hosted the ceremony before an estimated 1,000 attendees. Four people were struck. One of them, an 18-year-old member of the graduating class whom news outlets have named as Jamario Baker, did not survive. Three others, including a child, were injured and are recovering. The case remains under active investigation. Among those affected are clients and their families now represented by Mirador Law.
As the criminal case moves forward and the alleged shooter remains in custody, Mirador Law's focus is on the people at the center of this: their recovery, their questions, and their right to answers.
"An arrest is an important step, but it is only the beginning of accountability, not the end of it. The victims deserve to know why there was not adequate security for such a large graduation ceremony," said Megan Burns, Partner at Mirador Law. "Our clients and their families are living with the consequences of that night every day. They deserve a complete accounting from the school district regarding how this was allowed to happen and a justice process that treats them with the dignity and seriousness this loss demands."
Mirador Law, together with co-counsel Francisco Vera, represents the clients and their families in this matter, a number of whom were present and witnessed the events unfold. The firm is handling all civil matters arising from the incident on behalf of its clients. Its role is to protect their interests, ensure their voices are part of every stage of the process ahead, and pursue accountability and answers on their behalf.
"What should have been one of the proudest days of these families' lives became one of the most traumatic," said Burns. "As this case moves forward, we ask that the public and the media respect the privacy of the clients and their families while they grieve and heal."
Out of respect for the clients and consistent with the sensitivity of the matter, Mirador Law is not releasing the names of the clients or their family members at this time. The firm intends to share additional information as the case develops and as the clients and their families determine what they wish to make public.
Anyone who was present at or affected by the Sem Yeto High School graduation shooting may contact Mirador Law confidentially to understand their rights and options, with no obligation.
Mirador Law extends its condolences to the family of Jamario Baker and to everyone in the Fairfield community affected by this tragedy.
