MIDLOTHIAN, VA / ACCESS Newswire / May 18, 2026 / Marquis Who's Who is proud to honor Robert James Jones for his distinguished contributions to engineering, project management, technical consulting and service. Mr. Jones' career is defined by creativity, discipline, perseverance and a commitment to being of service wherever his skills were needed. His legacy reflects resilience, resourcefulness and excellence across multiple disciplines.

Mr. Jones is a retired engineering consultant and co-founder of Jones, Jones & Jones Inc., a family venture he established with his brothers. His 20-year engineering career included significant roles with DuPont and Philip Morris USA, as well as earlier military service and technical drafting work that laid the foundation for his professional path. Across each stage, he brought a practical, resourceful approach to solving problems and consistently delivered projects successfully and without overruns.

Speaking with Marquis Who's Who, Mr. Jones summarized the principles behind his success simply: be creative and be of service where service is needed. He explained that in every role, he viewed his work as meeting a real need, a mindset that allowed him to enjoy each assignment while continuing to build his skills. That philosophy shaped his growth from drafting and technical illustration into engineering, project management and consulting.

Mr. Jones' professional path began shortly after his service in the United States Air Force. Unsure of his future after high school, he was encouraged by his teacher, Mrs. Moses, to take the Air Force entrance exam-a suggestion that set the course for his early career. After passing, he enlisted and entered military service.

Although he initially hoped to work in technical illustrations, Jones was instead assigned to Air Police Squadrons. He first served at Laurence G. Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts, before later transferring to Hahn Air Base in Germany.

Jones held "Q" and top-secret clearances while serving as a U.S. Air Force Air Policeman from 1962 to 1966. At L.G. Hanscom Field, he was responsible for law enforcement, base security and protecting classified facilities, including the MIT research laboratories on base. He later continued these duties at Hahn Air Base and at off-base Mace nuclear cruise-missile sites in Germany.

While stationed abroad, Jones pursued his long‑standing interest in technical work by studying drafting through correspondence courses. He later completed an Air Force drafting specialist program, bringing him closer to the technical field he had originally hoped to enter.

During his Marquis Who's Who interview, Mr. Jones noted that after leaving the Air Force, he secured his first civilian technical role at Rotating Components in Brentwood, New York, where he illustrated and created blueprints for motors, fans, blowers and other rotating devices. That work strengthened his drafting foundation and led him to consider engineering as a long-term career.

Originally accepted to study art at Clark College in Atlanta, Mr. Jones withdrew and committed to engineering at Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University), earning his degree in 1972. He cites the dean of engineering's encouragement-"Robert, you can make it. You will get out of it what you put into it. You can do it."-as a defining influence on his academic direction and career. He further distinguished himself at Tuskegee by excelling in engineering graphics and receiving the Engineering Graphics Prize.

Upon graduating, Mr. Jones joined DuPont's Engineering Service division at Louviers in Newark, Delaware as a field engineer. "My strongest foundational skills came from my experiences at DuPont," he shared. While there, he served as lead engineer on a major $40 million Nomex 2x expansion project in Richmond, Virginia. The assignment was completed successfully and within budget.

The next field engineering assignment was at DuPont's Fabrics & Finishes plant in Parlin, New Jersey, where Mr. Jones helped resolve serious emissions issues involving exothermic reactors. His success on these assignments led to a role at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina, where he served as an engineer A and shift supervisor in highly classified nuclear weapons-related project and separations departments that required "Q" and top-secret clearances.

Mr. Jones later joined Philip Morris USA, where he spent 13 years as a senior engineer and project manager across multiple locations. Here, he launched an engineering standards program that consolidated existing, new and revised company standards into five organized categories.

Throughout his career, Mr. Jones has earned numerous honors, including recognition by Marquis Who's Who in 1981-1982 and 1982-1983. He has also held memberships in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Richmond Engineers Club, the American Management Association and the American Consultants League. As he continues his work, he plans to renew several key affiliations.

Looking ahead, Mr. Jones plans to continue consulting and is co-authoring a book on land patents with his brother. He believes the book will help educate landowners and address cases of unfair property loss. Married since 1968, he is also regarded as an exemplar in his family, having inspired four relatives from two branches to pursue engineering.

"Robert James Jones exemplifies the caliber of engineering professional Marquis Who's Who is proud to chronicle," the Marquis Who's Who editorial team stated. "His career reflects creativity, integrity and a lifelong commitment to using technical knowledge in service of real-world needs."
