CLOVIS, CA / ACCESS Newswire / June 17, 2026 / Marquis Who's Who is proud to honor Lee Shepard for his distinguished contributions to pool construction, maintenance, repair services and hydraulic design. Mr. Shepard's career reflects more than three decades of business ownership, technical expertise and a commitment to serving clients with integrity, craftsmanship and personal attention.

Mr. Shepard has served as owner and president of Lion Pools Inc. in Clovis, California, since 1991. The company was originally established in 1978 by Willie Lyon and later purchased by Mr. Shepard's father in 1986. On May 15, 1991, Mr. Shepard acquired the business and began leading it into its next chapter.

At the time, Lion Pools primarily focused on pool service and repair. After several years, Mr. Shepard expanded the company's offerings to include pool construction and remodeling, helping transform Lion Pools into a broader pool construction, maintenance and renovation provider.

Under Mr. Shepard's leadership, Lion Pools grew significantly during the early 2000s as demand for new pools increased. When economic conditions changed in 2008 and 2009 and new construction slowed sharply, he adjusted the business to maintain stability while preserving the quality and service clients expected. That adaptability has become one of the defining strengths of his career.

A major part of Mr. Shepard's expertise lies in hydraulics. Before leading Lion Pools, he spent four years with Valley Pump Group, which owned several companies in the water-well industry, including Aermotor Windmills. During that time, he was assigned to the Four Corners region and spent a month training Navajo residents in hydraulics while also learning about their commitment to preserving traditional windmills. He later spent five years with Hays Pumps, covering half of California and continuing to deepen his understanding of water systems, pumps and hydraulic performance.

Today, Mr. Shepard applies that background to pool design. He emphasizes hydraulic systems that improve efficiency, reduce operating costs and extend the lifespan of each pool. As the pool industry continues to focus on energy efficiency, automation and increasingly intelligent equipment, he sees major opportunities in systems that help customers save money while improving comfort and control. In his Marquis Who's Who interview, he noted that innovations such as efficient pumps, LED lighting, automation and voice-controlled temperature systems are changing expectations for modern pool ownership.

Among the most memorable projects of Mr. Shepard's career was his 2013 work on The Fawcett House in Los Banos, California, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. During the renovation, original architectural plans revealed a fountain that had never been built. Mr. Shepard constructed the feature, an approximately 80-foot-long fountain with a tower designed to send water into the air, and incorporated wind sensors so it could operate dynamically and safely. He later contributed to a new home for Arthur Dyson, a noted architect and former apprentice and assistant to Frank Lloyd Wright.

Mr. Shepard has also completed meaningful community projects, including renovations for the Clovis Unified School District and a youth camp in Coarsegold, California, where his team remodeled the entire pool facility. His civic support has included donations and volunteerism benefiting the Clovis Unified School District, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Toys for Tots and other youth-focused initiatives.

His achievements have been recognized with industry honors, including Pool Builder of the Year Awards in 2022 and 2023. One Lion Pools project in Fresno also earned Pool of the Year honors in its category, reflecting the company's commitment to design, technical quality and execution.

For Mr. Shepard, success is also measured by the impact his work has on families. One of his proudest memories came when a client's 4-year-old daughter hugged him and thanked him for building her a beautiful pool. The moment remains meaningful because it captured the personal side of his work, creating spaces where families gather, enjoy time together and build lasting memories.

Looking ahead, Mr. Shepard aims to sustain smart growth at Lion Pools while eventually preparing the company for its next generation of leadership. With most work generated through referrals, he remains focused on building 20 to 40 pools per year, expanding service offerings and maintaining the personal attention that has shaped the company's reputation.

"Lee Shepard exemplifies the caliber of business owner and skilled trades leader Marquis Who's Who is proud to chronicle," the editorial team stated. "His work in pool construction, hydraulic design and client service reflects a career defined by quality, commitment and technical excellence." Through its recognition of Mr. Shepard, Marquis Who's Who celebrates a professional whose leadership continues to shape outdoor living spaces and serve families across Central California.
