Since 2025, Mr. Saltsman has served as a nuclear controls consulting engineer with Sargent & Lundy. From 2022 to 2025, Mr. Saltsman served as a senior nuclear controls engineer with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy, contributing to the BWRX-300 small modular reactor project. His work supported the development of advanced nuclear steam turbine control systems designed to enhance safety, reliability and efficiency. He previously worked as a steam turbine controls engineer through Quest Global under contract to General Electric from 2020 to 2022.
Between 2017 and 2020, Mr. Saltsman served as a nuclear controls engineer at the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Oswego, New York, then operated by Exelon Corporation. Earlier, he spent 16 years with General Electric, where he designed, implemented, upgraded and supported steam turbine control technologies. From 2006 to 2012, he also traveled extensively to teach GE customers how turbine control systems operated, combining his engineering knowledge with a longstanding interest in education and mentorship.
His earlier career path was not always direct, but Mr. Saltsman remained committed to becoming an engineer and consistently returned to opportunities aligned with power systems and controls. "Don't let the setbacks that happen take you off track ... I always refocused on that path (in the turbine industry)," he advised.
Innovation has remained a defining part of Mr. Saltsman's career. He holds or has contributed to multiple patents, including inventions related to targeting and tracking airborne objects, steam turbine controls, an alternative musical keyboard design and a system for converting ocean wave movement into electricity. His recently issued wave energy patent focuses on a power takeoff mechanism capable of capturing energy during both the upward and downward motion of waves.
The design incorporates a weighted gravity stroke, allowing it to generate energy during the wave's descent rather than simply resetting the stroke. Mr. Saltsman has also developed a complementary control system intended to synchronize the mechanism with the unpredictable and asynchronous motion of natural waves. He believes the system could produce more energy within a smaller ocean footprint than conventional one-directional approaches.
His long-term vision includes developing an ocean pier capable of generating several megawatts of electricity. The lower level would house the wave energy equipment, while an upper boardwalk could include shops, residences or public spaces powered directly by the system, with excess electricity distributed to the grid. Another multi-use application would be to set up offshore aquaculture farming around and between the wave energy power plants. He is currently seeking investors and energy partners capable of licensing, developing and commercializing the technology.
Mr. Saltsman's musical keyboard patent reflects another side of his inventive thinking. By reorganizing the traditional arrangement into six evenly spaced black keys and six white keys per octave, his design allows musicians to use the same fingering patterns when changing keys. He hopes eventually to provide redesigned keyboards and instruction to churches seeking to establish or strengthen music ministries.
