How wartime urgency turned an ordinary subcontract into an extraordinary test of the defense contracting system.

What remained was moving toward places it should never have been permitted to go in the first place.
The book's central question is not whether the contracting system failed, but what happened while every subsystem succeeded.

Drawing on the available documentary record, "Gossamer Thread" follows the advance into a company that could not otherwise have financed the work, then traces where the money went, who received it and what was ultimately delivered.
The book draws on contract instruments, acceptance records, securities disclosures, lobbying filings, bank movements, technical specifications and court records gathered over more than two years of research.
"Gossamer Thread" is written for program offices, prime contractors, compliance teams, investors and advisers working across the defense supply base. It is the first title in Black Rudder Advisory's case study series.
