Wishing Box Tells the Tale of a Silly Pirate and his Sidekick Finding a Magical Treasure Chest that Grants Wishes, Only with a Twist
LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / May 15, 2017 / Director Lizzie Zhang is pleased to announce the upcoming release of her animated short film Wishing Box. The story tells the tale of a silly and greedy pirate named Derek and his loveable sidekick monkey who come across a magical treasure chest with a secret.

As a spokesperson for Wishing Box noted, Derek the Pirate and his monkey pal find a magical treasure chest that has the ability to grant every wish—but only if the wisher is a monkey. Zhang and Nan Li started their animated film in 2013 as their MFA Thesis for the Academy of Art University. In Fall of 2014, Wishing Box was officially accepted into the new StudioX program at the Academy by StudioX Executive Producer Sasha Korellis.
"Wishing Box is currently wrapping up its last couple stages of production and in the next few months will be fully lit, rendered and set up with a beautiful score to set the mood," the spokesperson noted, adding that Zhang was inspired to create the story by her own love of treasure hunting.
In addition to Zhang and Li, around 150 young artists from around the world have worked on this short animated film, making it an international group effort.
"We enjoyed every bit of the production and it’s been an unforgettable journey for all our team members," Zhang said.
In order to finish Wishing Box and pay for the music, programming, animation awards fees and the other many costs that are associated with finishing the animated short and bringing it to the public, Zhang recently launched a fundraiser on Indiegogo. There, she hopes to raise $16,000 through crowdfunding.
"With your help, we can finally finish Wishing Box and show it to the world," Zhang said.
