LAS VEGAS, NV / ACCESSWIRE / APRIL 6, 2022 / On February 19, 2022, the HBCU Legacy Bowl, presented by the Black College Football Hall of Fame, was held in New Orleans, offering the opportunity for overlooked HBCU players to shine on the field. As CEO of Coaching Charities and the instrumental force in bringing the event to life, Kevin Kaplan gave his thoughts on why this game and platform is a difference-maker.

During the game broadcast, Kaplan was asked about establishing the HBCU Legacy Bowl and what it was all about.

"I think back to a press conference with the great Eddie Robinson (legendary Grambling State University Head Coach), when they asked him about his quarterback Doug Williams, what he needed to do to get to the NFL… and all Coach Robinson said was ‘an opportunity' … and this game is about opportunity. It's about awareness. It's about these players having a chance to show their talent in front of a national audience, and I'm so proud of Doug Williams' and James Harris' leadership in making this game happen."

The HBCU Legacy Bowl, broadcast live on NFL Network, featured 100 of the top HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) NFL draft-eligible players, a halftime performance by the "World Famed" Grambling Marching Band, an appearance by NFL Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes for the coin-toss and special message from Actor and Director Tyler Perry. Major partners included the NFL, Coca-Cola, Adidas, Riddell, Coors Light, State Farm, the New Orleans Saints Football Club, and others.

In addition to the exposure afforded the players participating in the game, the HBCU Legacy Bowl also established a Career Fair for graduating HBCU Juniors and Seniors. The live and subsequent "virtual" HBCU Legacy Bowl Career Fair attracted over 1,500 students and 150 top employers.

Kevin S. Kaplan has long been an advocate for HBCUs through his work through the Black College Football Hall of Fame, working alongside Williams and Harris. He believes the HBCU Legacy Bowl and other related programs will help level the playing field.

"The Black College Football Hall of Fame platform is about honoring the past, celebrating the present, and creating a bridge of opportunity to the future," said Kevin S. Kaplan.

Thankfully, it's not just Kevin Kaplan who's excited about the HBCU Legacy Bowl. All the fanfare and national exposure opens the doors for the New Orleans community and interested national partners joining together in creating expanded opportunities.
