Aurora Expeditions Announces The Winner Of The 2015 Antarctic Photography Competition, Michael Johnson from Georgia
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA / ACCESSWIRE / November 15, 2015 / Florida-based resident Michael Johnson has been announced as the winner of Aurora Expeditions' Antarctica Photography Competition after traveling on one of the polar specialists' expeditions to Antarctica and South Georgia in November last year.
The winning photograph entitled Penguin Shadows was taken at St Andrews Bay, South Georgia, as Michael and fellow travelers landed on the island for an early morning excursion. Michael has taken home $1,000 worth of photography vouchers for winning first place in the competition.
"With the Polar Pioneer way in the background it is an early morning image of a bunch of king penguins as they approach the sea for their morning fishing. The light was spectacular and I was scurrying around looking for dramatic images when that one appeared... The shadows captured my eye and I liked the early morning story it tells", explained Michael about his photograph.
This competition was judged by James Ostinga, Managing Editor of Australian Photography + digital magazine, who said the standard of images was very high, but did make choosing the winner and runners up a tough task.
