HATTIESBURG, MS / ACCESSWIRE / April 21, 2022 / The CDC recently announced lifting the mask mandate in public indoor settings for around 90% of the counties in the United States. The CDC made this decision based on hospitalization rates falling into low or medium risk categories. However, for high-risk counties, the indoor mask mandate remains. CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said, "we are in a new phase where we can start to do things we like to do, yet we should remain vigilant." Dr. Walensky added, "I'm not sure the pandemic is over completely. The coronavirus is most likely here to stay and could behave similarly to influenza."

The most recent data from the CDC shows BA.2, an omicron subvariant, has tripled in the US in the past few weeks, after a steady rise in Europe over the last month.

COVID-19's latest surge may mean mask mandates will return in some capacity. The virus can still pose a potentially serious, deadly risk to the 7 million Americans who are immunocompromised and others, including 18.2 million people with cardiovascular disease, 34 million with diabetes, and around 18 million with cancers.

Dr. Jinhai Yang of PSC Solutions, LLC, an aerospace composite company that makes PPEs says an upgraded nasal mask offers a new option of highly protective PPE.

Dr. Yang said, "the aerospace industry requires one of the strictest safety standards, always targeting 100% safety. This is exactly what we need for PPE designs."

The nostril cavity is where the majority of COVID infections occur. The nose mask is designed to cover the nose only using specialty medical adhesive, which does not leave residue on the skin. It can help filter every breath of air through the nostrils, largely decreasing the chance of catching the virus. Dr. Yang says, "this allows you to wear a mask 24/7, which brings an essential layer of protection. It may be beneficial when we can not wear the regular face mask like when eating or drinking."

PSC Solutions believes the nose mask can be especially useful for hospital personnel who wear masks for long periods. Besides the protection, nose masks are easy to wear with no skin irritation.

Dr. Yang is dedicated to helping the US in its battle against COVID viruses. He says, "the virus has been overwhelming all our medical systems. I came to the United States 19 years ago with only two suitcases. I have been in this country for so long and made great friends - and have been treated like family by colleagues and friends. I am obligated to fight the virus for this great country."
