Company Update
LONDON, UK / ACCESSWIRE / June 16, 2022 / The new normal is here, high inflation, staff shortages, hybrid working environment, wage increases, supply chain issues, changing customers habits, buying process and expectation, as well as a new Government, whether we like it or not. Therefore, it is essential that we, as a business, re-strategise how to live within an environment that is imbued with uncertainty and instability. Eric Tjoeng, the founder of management consultancy firm BGES - short for Business Growth and Exit Specialists - assists Small and Medium-sized Enterprises with doing just that: preparing ahead of time for challenging times.

‘There's one thing I consistently see when I'm consulting small to medium enterprises (SME) that are either taking their first steps into a business venture or are just starting to get on a roll: almost all SMEs think of future-proofing as some optional thing they will get down to "when the time is right". What happens, of course, is that the time is never right and once they hit the inevitable bump in the road - as all businesses will experience at one time or another - the businesses find themselves ill-prepared.' Eric continues: ‘As a consequence of this, a minor inconvenience turns into a substantial problem. When this occurs, it usually means the growth trajectory of the SME is impeded to a much higher degree than what would have been necessary, worse still they might need to close the business. And that, simply put, is a shame.'
When it comes to future-proofing, postponement often equals disappointment and perish. ‘Future-proofing your business is absolutely essential, states Eric Tjoeng, if you want your SME to be healthy and prosperous. Especially given the current climate, where things are still very much uncertain.' As Benjamin Franklin once said: ‘By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.'
So - how do you future-proof your business? ‘For me, Eric explains, it's essential to look at the health of an SME from a strategic but also holistic view, one eye looking at the present and one eye looking into the future. Pragmatism, being agile and adaptable are keys: this means being honest when reviewing what does/will work, and also what doesn't/will not work and come up with new/fresh solutions.' Most importantly, however, is that you start now rather than later. If there's one thing the pandemic taught us, it's that future-proofing your business is not an option, it's a must.
