ROWLEY, MA / ACCESSWIRE / February 20, 2023 / Andrew Amigo, CEO of Blackburn Energy, grew up in a blue-collar environment: his grandfather was an immigrant furniture maker and his dad was a carpenter who taught him how to drive a truck. Andrew went to university eager to learn about the world and find his passion. He was studying law and also did graduate work in international economics.
Andrew spent a few years working in the NGO and corporate world, which he initially thought was where he belonged. Eventually, he realized he was missing something. He decided to try a different path when he was offered an opportunity to work with a venture investment group. This work allowed him to be very creative. He enjoyed solving problems and was working with the trucking and telematics industries. Once Andrew was established in his work, there he felt an infectious desire to create his very own startup.
He began dreaming about the problems he could solve and one day when he was sitting in traffic, an idea struck him. Andrew was watching a semi-trailer truck drive by absentmindedly, when he realized how he could repurpose the energy being wasted from these trucks. He was watching the drive shaft of the truck moving and saw the opportunity to develop a whole new way of managing a vehicle's energy.
His thoughts at the time continually returned to the indisputable fact that the world remained a highly mechanical place. Even in the digital age, most humans use some form of transport or mechanics regularly. Andrew was aware of how inefficient our energy use can be: "Humans create energy from several systems and sources, but never capture all of the energy created. They use what is needed for the task and waste the rest," says Amigo.
Andrew knew this process could be improved. As a result, he founded his company, Blackburn Energy, in 2014. Andrew left his corporate work life and invested his money into his new venture. His background in human rights and strong belief in equality gave him a burning desire to do something worthwhile with his company. Blackburn Energy's mission was to make clean energy sources accessible to anyone who had a truck. Andrew helped people to gain access to greener energy sources, without the need for an expensive electric car. He understood that he needed to create a product that could adapt to the current mechanical landscape, working within motor vehicles, easily transforming wasted energy into renewable energy.
Andrew started from the bottom up when building a machine that could be used by the general public. This meant making it simple enough to be installed by anyone around the world and compatible with any truck. He has over 20 patents involving various successful techniques and products. He also has experience as a class A licensed professional driver and knowledge from several trade careers he applies in his work today.
For the future, Andrew would like his products to be widely used in developed economies, specifically at the factory level, rather than being installed after market. Once this greener solution has been widely adopted by large companies in the American market, Andrew plans to make it available for underprivileged communities, in the US and abroad. He wants to make the energy-saving tools he has developed available and let people decide what is best for them to use. Andrew dreams that every person will be able to access this technology and use it to improve their lives.
Andrew Amigo concluded:
"We're working with some folks in Africa, generating electricity to deliver to schools. They have no power grid and they have older trucks. They're on the bottom of the economic scale. We can reach markets across the world and start using our technology, turning trucks into generators of electricity. Instead of delivering boxes of goods, we deliver a box of energy. We can store clean energy in a mobile platform, and then deliver it to a school, medical clinic, or a marketplace. We're starting with commercial trucking and off-grid environments, but we're also beginning to expand our energy-saving capabilities. I think we can change the world by bringing electricity to corners of the world that would never otherwise have it."
