Nashville, TN / ACCESSWIRE / May 8, 2015 / According to a recent article in techcrunch.com,Tesla, the company that manufactures the highly popular electric car, has established a new business arm focused on ending the nation’s dependence on the electric grid by switching to solar energy.
The first Tesla energy product, called Powerwall Home Battery, is a stationary battery that can power a household without requiring the grid. The battery is rechargeable lithium-ion and can be fixed to a wall, removing much of the existing complexity around using a local power source.
The company’s batteries cost $3,500 for 10kWh and $3,000 for 7kWh. The first orders are expected to be distributed in late summer. Up to nine batteries can be stacked together to create a strong power source.
For those who wish to power their homes with solar energy much less expensively, there is Power4Patriots.
