New Orleans, LA / ACCESSWIRE / January 29, 2015 / Joule Solar Energy is helping homeowners reduce their energy bills through 2015 state and federal tax credits. The company does this by installing solar panel systems on residential properties. The panels allow customers to see a return on investment over time and thus rely less on the consumption of utilities' resources.

Utilities like Entergy and Cleco have a monopoly on the regions they are in. Such energy companies have no nearby competition, and thus can increase their utility rates if they so choose. They put in the effort to stop solar panel installations on their customers' homes as a result.

Tax credits can lessen the cost of a residential solar panel system. Combined state and federal tax credits can fund up to 80 percent of the cost of Louisiana homeowners' solar panel installation. The state provides a 50 percent credit that is refundable; the U.S. government offers a 30 percent credit.

The net investment on a solar panel installation is what the homeowner pays after the state and federal tax credits are initiated. A homeowner could see a return on their original investment is five to nine years. Solar panel systems created to completely rid a household of its utility bill have paid for themselves in seven years, according to Joule.

Many elements affect a homeowner's return on investment. They include the solar panels' productivity, the quality of the selected materials and the installation's size.

A process called Net Metering allows customers to save money on their electric bills. Net Metering uses a grid that stores up energy gathered through the solar panel system. A bill credit goes to the homeowner for any traditional utility energy not used. Customers can see how much they are saving through an online monitoring system they can put in place at no cost.

Joule is providing homeowners an installation service of solar panels on residential properties until the end of 2015. Customers fund no down payment, and the cost is $42 per month. Homeowners get a free consultation and a free estimate by completing a form on the company's website.
