Researchers at Cannabis Training University discovered that cannabis plants grown under Hydro Grow LED lights achieve 4X the yield as HID grow lights
SUNRISE, FL / ACCESSWIRE / April 9, 2015 / The LED vs HID debate has ended, with Hydro Grow lights claiming a new world record at more than four times the yield per watt of high pressure sodium (HPS). The test was performed by world-renowned Cannabis Training University, with more than 1,000,000 followers on Social Media. A time-lapse video that shows the record growth is now available on YouTube.
To put an end to the HID vs LED debate, Cannabis Training University created an experiment using a 1,200W twin-bulb HPS setup against a single G4, 336X-PRO, 500W LED grow light from Hydro Grow. To make certain the test was not skewed in any way; every variable was kept equal. Both lighting groups received clones of the Jack the Ripper strain of identical size, in identical growing media. The media was Happy Frog and Roots Organic soils, combined equally in five gallon buckets.
Throughout the test the plants were subjected to equal treatments of watering and nutrients. The nutrients used were from House and Garden with Botanicare, mixed as indicated by the directions on each product.
The plants were in the vegetative stage for 2 months prior to spending 9 additional weeks in a flowering room. Each set of plants was topped one month into the vegetative cycle, and after bending techniques were used to continue training the plants.
The time-lapse recording documented the entire test, providing greater credibility to the experiment. The video shows the LED grow lights leading the HID setup from the first week on through harvest. As time progressed, the difference between the LED and HID plants grew even further apart. By the end of the test the LED plants were nearly double the size.
The ending yield from the LED side was 1.5X greater than the HPS side, despite using 63 percent less energy. According to the researchers, the LED buds were also much smoother when medicating. When the final math was calculated, it showed the LED side producing more than 4X the yield per watt of the HPS side. For commercial cannabis growers, this equates to 4X the profit on every harvest when using an equal wattage LED from Hydro Grow in replacement of HID.
