Affecting 24 U.S. states, the hurricane hit the Northeast in late October 2012 and was the second costliest hurricane in the nation's history (more that $70 billion). Some area residents are still suffering from damage inflicted by Hurricane Sandy.

"The people who work at food banks around the country are frequently among the first responders when a tragedy such as Hurricane Sandy strikes, and The River Fund New York is certainly no exception," said Allen Baler, Partner at 4Patriots LLC.

"By quickly using what they stockpile and by working to bring in more food through donations, they are able to save lives. We strongly encourage everyone able to donate to food banks across the country, such as The River Fund New York, to step up to the plate and do so. That donation just might save a life."

The donation from Food4Patriots, which featured 450 individual servings, included approximately 20 different food items, such as mashed potatoes, oatmeal, fettuccine Alfredo, beef stroganoff, lasagna and a wide variety of soups. It was received by The River Fund New York on Oct. 2, 2015.

"None of us knows when we might be the victims of an extreme weather event such as Hurricane Sandy, and that's why it's crucial to stock up on emergency food," Baler said. "Store shelves empty in a hurry during a crisis, but having good tasting, nutritious, long-lasting food stored up in advance brings real peace of mind."

Food4Patriots' 72-hour, one-week, four-week, three-month and one-year emergency food kits have shelf lives of up to 25 years. The food in these kits can be prepared in less than 20 minutes and requires only boiling water. It's kept in easy-to-store Mylar pouches, which keep out air, moisture and light.
