NASHVILLE, TN / ACCESSWIRE / October 23, 2015 / In order to honor the victims of Hurricane Sandy on the third anniversary of the disaster, officials at Food4Patriots announced today that they have donated a three-month supply of emergency food to the Connecticut Food Bank in East Haven, Conn.

Food4Patriots is a supplier of emergency food suitable for long-term storage, survival and emergency preparedness. Hurricane Sandy struck the Northeast in late October 2012 and ended up affecting 24 U.S. states. It was the second costliest hurricane in the nation's history (more that $70 billion), and some area residents are still suffering from the damage it caused.

The donation from Food4Patriots, which featured 450 individual servings, included approximately 20 different food items, such as mashed potatoes, oatmeal, fettuccine Alfredo, beef stroganoff, lasagna and a wide variety of soups. It was received by the Connecticut Food Bank earlier this month.

"It's important for all of us to stock up on emergency food because we don't know when we might become victims of an extreme weather event such as Hurricane Sandy," said Allen Baler, Partner at 4Patriots LLC. "Having good tasting, nutritious, long-lasting food stored up in advance brings peace of mind."

Food4Patriots' 72-hour, one-week, four-week, three-month and one-year emergency food kits have shelf lives of up to 25 years. The food in these kits can be prepared in less than 20 minutes and requires only boiling water. It's kept in easy-to-store Mylar pouches, which keep out air, moisture and light.

"The Connecticut Food Bank and other food banks in the Northeast were among the first to respond to the misery inflicted by Hurricane Sandy, and they are still hard at work today when people need food quickly due to a variety of circumstances," Baler said.

"We realize that not everyone is in a position to make a food or monetary donation to places such as the Connecticut Food Bank, but almost all of us can devote some time to helping people in need. People who donate time or money to feed the needy say they benefit at least as much as those whom they serve."
